The impact of indexation on your SMSF clients

2026/27 marks just the second time since 1 July 2017 that both the contribution caps and the general transfer balance cap will index in the same year. Whilst indexation provides individuals with greater contribution and pension opportunities it can also create some headaches if you don’t get things right.

In this webinar, Tim Miller from Smarter SMSF will run through what the latest CPI and AWOTE numbers mean for our various superannuation caps and thresholds and highlight tips and traps to ensure clients are fully informed before making any strategic decisions. In addition, this session will provide another opportunity to understand how an individual’s personal transfer balance cap is impacted as a result of the general transfer balance cap going up for the second straight year.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this session, attendees will have an appreciation for:
– Which caps and thresholds are being indexed and by how much.
– How indexation of both the non-concessional and transfer balance cap impacts the bring-forward rules.
– The 2026/27 caps that we won’t know about until closer to the new year.
