SMSF Trusteeships is a relatively easy concept to get right when you stick to the basics that all members must be trustees and all trustees must be members. In reality nothing is ever that easy and there are plenty of scenarios where the rule of thumb doesn’t apply and membership and trusteeship doesn’t correspond, not in an obvious way.
In this webinar, Tim Miller from Smarter SMSF will be exploring the definition of an SMSF with a particular focus on what happens when members join or leave an SMSF and indeed what circumstances result in alternate trustees being appointed. Scenarios that will be considered include:
– Single member funds
– Members under the age of 18
– Members under a legal disability other than age
– Disqualified trustees
– Death of a member
Learning outcomes
At the end of the webinar, participants will have an appreciation for:
– Ensuring all appointments meet the legislative and Deed requirements
– The rules associated with appointing an alternate trustee, including who can be an alternate trustee
– Various timeframes related to trustee appointment and removals
– Trustee obligations once appointed
