Creating a contribution strategy playbook – workshop

This interactive workshop will provide attendees with direct access to one of Australia’s leading SMSF educators. Over the course of 3 hours Tim Miller will take attendees through the interaction between Tax and Super identifying all the key contribution strategies available throughout the lifecycle of an SMSF member.

Using a number of case studies taken from real fund examples and the creative mind of the presenter, this workshop will work through how various contribution strategies interact with the total superannuation balance and transfer balance cap concepts as well as delve into the more complex contributions issues linked with small business concessions, disability, the use of reserves and refunding contributions.

 

Session One (90 mins) – Introduction to contribution issues post 1 July 2020 & the ramifications of indexation from 2021

In the first half of the workshop Tim will identify all contributions issues and opportunities and start to build up the case studies which will focus on lifecycle events incorporating all of the strategies that should be front of mind for all SMSF members.  How contribution strategies co-exist with the transfer balance cap and total superannuation balance concepts will be a key driver of this first session

 

Session Two (90 mins)Complex contribution concepts & Q & A hot seat

Taking the case studies beyond the standard and into the complex, the second half of the workshop will bring a crescendo to the contribution strategy norms and start to delve into the complexities of small business concession contributions as well as differentiating between contribution reserve and reserve allocations.  Personal injury and permanent disability will also be factored into the case studies.The session will finish with a contribution free for all Q & A session.

 

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this workshop, participants will have an appreciation for:

  • How the total super balance and transfer balance cap play a critical role in many contribution strategies
  • That not all strategies are created equal and certain strategies require certain conditions to be met
  • How contribution strategies impact retirement income and estate planning
